Bridal & Photography

Bridal makeup is all about highlighting that beautiful glow that every bride has on their special day. Needless to say, it’s much less about putting on bold and bright colors, but more of making use of natural color palettes that would illuminate facial features with an added radiance.

The same goes for looking your best in front of the camera, as in having your photos either done casually or professionally. It’s not so much as simply piling on tons of heavy makeup to conceal and create a whole new face, but what’s actually even more important is the prepping that goes on before you put on all the colors.

Here at RY, we’ve narrowed it down to several makeup tips and brands that would suit beautiful brides the best.

Skincare First

Skincare first, makeup second. As what makeup artists stand by, great makeup starts with a good canvas--and that good canvas can be achieved by having excellent skin through proper skin care and maintenance.

Proper skincare involves the whole extensive process from cleansing to toning, exfoliating to moisturizing, as well as special treatments in between. However, you don’t need to complete a 10-step or whichever multitude of steps just to get it right. Simply knowing and identifying what your skin needs should be more than enough.

Well loved brands in the skincare industry such as Hylamide and Pixi by Petra can help you get started with their wide range of treatments that provide the cleansing, repair, and nourishing your skin needs on a daily basis. Remember that compared to makeup, which can give you an instantaneous change, skin care takes time and requires commitment. But so long as you stick to it, the results will definitely pay off, paving the way for a smoother and more flawless makeup application.

Prepping & Priming

Priming the skin before makeup application is mainly for creating a smooth starting point, as well as ensuring that the makeup sticks and stays in place. Much like painting a wall requires proper priming, the face also needs the right prepping to ready it up and to have a more flawless end result.

Beloved brands such as Becca and Napoleon Perdis are known to have some of the most trusted skin primers, even being used by professionals as well. They offer a wide range of primers and “perfectors” for every skin type, ensuring a lasting and more glowing makeup look.

Refine & Conceal

Once the skin is all set and ready to be made up, then comes the first layer consisting of foundation and concealer. Choosing the right shade of foundation and concealer is critical to pulling off that natural-looking glow for brides, especially once they’re positioned in front of the lens.

Youngblood’s lineup of makeup comprises of foundation and foundation brushes, which gives off a more refined and evened out complexion. This should be followed up by applying a reliable concealer and/or correctors, for which brands like Kryolan and Mirenesse are known for.

Always keep in mind that putting on a lighter shade isn’t the best way to go for in refining and concealing your complexion. The best option would be to find the exact shade of foundation, as well as complementary hues for concealer and corrector that would result to a naturally evened out skin.

Highlight & Illuminate

Contouring and highlighting used to be considered as tricks of the professionals but have now become very mainstream that just about anyone who has the patience for it can easily do it as well. Rightfully so, contouring and highlighting adds another dimension to the overall result of makeup application, even more so for weddings and for professional photography.

Ofra is known for their wide range of makeup, including contouring and highlighting palettes. Combine that with some bronzers and blush from Curtis Collection and you’re all set with that extra glow that would shine through, especially once hit by light.

Dramatic Flush

Bridal makeup is often viewed as having a soft yet dramatic approach. Everything comes into play with the right brow shaping, subtly smokey eyes, flushed cheeks, and quaint or vibrant lips.

Of course, there are many ways to pull off that bridal dramatic flush and most of the time, it’s a matter of playing up different colors, shades, styles, and overall looks until you find the one that would best suit your special day.

Well loved names such as Jane Iredale, Gorgeous Cosmetics, and Gerard Cosmetics all have an extensive array of eye palettes, brow and lash products, blushes, lip colors, and other necessary makeup additions such as powders and setting spray, which would complete that effortlessly radiant and glowing appearance.

When it comes to pulling off a bridal look to remember--not to mention, one that would look even more beautiful once photographed--it’s about emphasising and refining your natural look and not exaggerating or overly covering up your innate beauty.
