Movember – Looking after men and their grooming habits

On November 1st, men of the world were clean shaven, and for the full month were asked to grow their facial hair, but their moustaches especially. Friends, family and colleagues were encouraged to donate to their efforts, with all proceeds going towards the relevant men’s health charities. In Australia, these charities are beyondblue and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

What began in Melbourne has grown into a global movement, with MoBros being found all over the world during Movember, supporting their fellow men and hoping to prompt discussion around men’s health which is sadly a topic often ignored.

In 2011, 854,000 men and women (Women are encouraged to participate in the campaign by starting teams and raising money) got on board the MoTrain, raising a total of AU$124 million.

The main aim of Movember has always been to give men the courage to speak up about any health problems they may have. This, in turn, will hopefully increase the chances of early detection, diagnosis and treatment.

The funds raised by Movember are directed to programs run by Movember and their health partners beyondblue: the national depression initiative and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. Together, the three channels work to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in line with their strategic goals, in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.

Ry is a proud supporter of Movember and we encourage all of our male employees to take part in the initiative. Just as we support men through their hair growth, we’re also here to provide them with the shaving and grooming products required when the month ends, or even during the month as they craft their mo’s to the perfect style.
