With so many beauty products on the market today, one can be easily overwhelmed by the sheer number of different creams, powders and lotions. One of the questions that we are asked on a regular basis is “What is Makeup Primer?” as many women have yet to hear about this very important part of a makeup kit. Let’s take a look at makeup primer and how one can make use of this product to improve their look!
Makeup primer is great for keeping a long lasting, flawless foundation. Perfect for a long night out or a 12 hour movie shoot. Most primers come with a base of water or silicon, with the rest of the formula containing vitamins for your skin, and perhaps some extracts from grapes or teas. Make up primer is used for a similar reasons as paint primer is used in the home; it applies a smooth layer onto your skin, filling in crevasses or smoothing over bumps and helping to fill in your pores. This is key for applying foundation. The primer will keep your foundation flawlessly smooth.
This all depends on your skin, so choosing makeup primer varies from face to face. If you have dry skin then you will want a primer with an oily base to it. Also in this case, it wouldn’t hurt to moisturise your face before applying primer as this will help keep your skin hydrated. Some primers such as our Napoleon Perdis Mattifying Mineral Primer actually have a creamy base to them, so if money is tight you can save some money by purchasing a 2-in-1 primer. When it comes to oily skin you will need an oil-free primer. Try for a 60% or higher water-based product such as our Model Co Face Base Skin Primer which is a hydrating primer.
There are other primers on the market today, such as those with skin tightening technology. This is great for really giving your face some lift, as are foam-type primers which can help to give you some lift around your chin and cheeks. If you’re going to be out in the sun, you may want to consider a primer with a moisturizing SPF base to it, amazing for a social BBQ on the beach or when spending some time at a public event.
Apply 4 or 5 penny sized drops around your face. When smoothing it out use a swift push with your hand over each drop. Try to use as few strokes as possible. Proper technique is essentially one single stroke smoothing that droplet out evenly against your skin. Wipe away from your face and look closely to make sure its filled in any cracks or crevasses.
