Why your skin needs vitamins too

It’s well known that taking vitamin supplements can help to ensure your body is getting enough of the nutrients it needs to support your overall health. But did you know vitamins also provide your skin with essential antioxidants it needs to repair and protect itself, helping to prevent premature ageing?

Your skin is your single largest organ, performing many essential functions such as protecting your internal organs and helping to regulate your body temperature, just to name a few. However, because your body does not prioritise your skin as highly as other organs like your brain, heart, liver and kidneys, it can end up at the bottom of the list to receive any vitamins you ingest through foods and supplements.

Pair this with the fact that everyday realities of modern life such as UV, pollution and stress can further deplete your skin’s vitamin stores, and it’s easy to see how our skin can run short on these essential antioxidants.

Does this really matter though? You bet it does!
When our skin is deficient in vitamins, it can lead to issues such as a loss of radiance and elasticity, greater sensitivity and an increase in visible wrinkle depth; all of which are the key indicators of ageing in our skin. Eeek!

While supplementation is certainly important, the reality is there is no way to force your body to send those ingested vitamins straight to your laugh lines and age spots if other organs it prioritises needs them first. Unless of course you apply the Vitamins directly to the skin… and that’s where Alpha‐H’s Vitamin serums come in.

A customised approach to vitamins in skincare

Ok, we’ve established that your skin definitely needs vitamins. But how do we know which one to use and when? We’ll get to that in a moment, but first we need to talk about how to approach Vitamin supplements for your skin.

The normal approach to skincare almost acts as if one size should fit all. But the reality is that our skin’s exact needs are constantly changing. This happens in response to a variety of factors including our lifestyle, stress levels, sleep patterns, hormonal fluctuations, diet and environment. We’re sure you’ve noticed this in your own skin, right?
Due to this, the product which was right for your skin last month, last week, even yesterday, might not actually be the right choice for what your skin is facing today.

This is where Alpha‐H’s four custom‐designed Vitamin serums – A, B, C and E – are different. Each possess unique skincare benefits and they have been designed for individual use to target specific concerns. Through a simple process of self‐prescription based on your own
personal knowledge of what your skin is facing at any given time, day or night, you can select the Vitamin which will best meet your skin’s precise needs. Neat, huh?
So, just like you would consult the weather and how your body was feeling on any given day before getting dressed to go out, this collection acts like your skincare wardrobe, allowing you to choose the serum which is best suited to your current situation.

Meet the Vitamins

Let’s take a quick look at each of the Alpha‐H Vitamin serums, what they offer your skin and when to use them.

Vitamin A is for anti‐ageing. This hydrating and antioxidant‐rich nighttime serum works to boost skin renewal, helping to diminish uneven skin tone while improving firmness and texture and combatting roughness. Apply 3‐4 drops to clean, dry skin of an evening, then allow to absorb into the skin for 10 minutes before applying your preferred moisturiser.

Vitamin B is for building moisture and boosting your barrier function. Fortified with Niacinamide, Copper Tripeptide, Ferulic Acid and Chia Seeds, this plumping and hydrating serum promotes elasticity and enhances the skin’s natural barrier. Apply 2‐3 drops to clean, dry skin of a morning or evening.

Vitamin C is for clarity. Blending the stable form of Vitamin C, Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, with Hyaluronic Acid and botanicals, this antioxidant‐rich serum can help to reduce pigmentation, refine pores and fight back against free radical damage. Apply 2‐3 drops to clean, dry skin each morning and allow to absorb into the skin for a minute before applying a broad‐spectrum SPF moisturiser to maximise your protection against UV‐induced damage.

Vitamin E is for emergency repair. This nurturing serum works to boost hydration, repair damage to skin cells and protect against environmental harm. Vitamin E’s healing properties help to improve rough, dry flaking skin while also helping to improve barrier function and reduce inflammation so as to calm irritated skin. Apply 3‐4 drops to clean, dry skin in the morning or evening.
