Flowing tresses, chic updos, voluminous bouffant styles were all the rage at the 51st Grammy Awards, held on February 8. While an old-style glamour revival was apparent (see Katy Perry and Taylor Swift), big hair also appeared to be making a comeback, but not in a good way. See below for some shots of the (style) winners and losers on the night.
Looking surprisingly demure, Kim Kardashian’s elegant chignon is a timeless classic.
If you can look past the freakishly filled-in lips and overdone makeup, Lisa Rinna’s multi-up do was sleek and stylish, taking the bun to greater heights.
Holding the record for most consecutive appearances on worst dressed lists, Bai Ling was leaning on the conservative side, with a razor straight-blunt fringe and simple pony. The jury’s still out on this one, Bai.
Winner- Sporting what appears to be extensions, Kate Beckinsale was every bit the sultry siren with lusciously long tresses cascading into soft waves, framing her face beautifully. Teamed with subtle makeup and a Reema Acra gown, Kate represented Hollywood glamour effortlessly.
Sheryl Crowe went experimental with a glamorous yet beachy look. The simple flowing mane coupled with a pearlescent cerulean dress was definitely red carpet worthy.
Sadly for Cyndi Lauper, her attempt at the bouff just didn’t work out. Too much volume, plus straggly side-strands never looks good on anyone.
Another friend of the bouffant was Paula Abdul. While her overall look left a lot to be desired, Paula channeled her inner debutante with a high bun that would probably be okay with another outfit. Then again, could any style have worked that canary yellow monstrosity?
Charming in Versace and Burberry suits, the Jonas brothers wowed the crowd with their best Cary Grant impressions. Nick and Kevin showed off their signature bouncy curls, while Joe was well-groomed with his longer hair carefully styled, oozing charm and sex appeal.
