The Most Hyped Products of 2015 – Were they worth it?

In the beauty community there are few things more exciting than hot new products hitting the market. Thanks to the internet and beauty bloggers everywhere, the hype around certain products can tend to be a little overwhelming – and I’m not going to lie; I’ve been caught up in the hype more than a few times.

So without further a do here are the Most Hyped Products of 2015

Were they really worth said hype?

1. Jaclyn Hill x BECCA Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector $60

WHAT: You have to have seen this highlighter everywhere. US Beauty Vlogger Jaclyn Hill dropped this little baby right into the heart of the strobing phenomenon and the world was set into a frenzy.

WORTH IT? The finest, gold powder with pinky peach undertones that makes you look lit from within? So worth it. If you aren’t rocking this to the shops, to work or on a causal Sunday morning stroll, I’m not sure what’s wrong with you.

2. Real Techniques Bold Metals Collection $99

WHAT: Make-up Artist duo Sam + Nick Chapman’s Real Techniques range are favourites of make-up artists and beauty junkies around the globe because of their high quality and low price tag. When the new Bold Metals range were announced you can bet we were dying to get our hands on these in the beautiful gold, silver and bronze finish – but the price tag had us feeling a little sore.

WORTH IT? Still the same great quality you expect from Real Techniques but with the softest, white brush heads and stunning, metallic finish on the handles – I’d buy just to display on my dresser alone. To be honest you can probably get just as decent brush for about half the price, but why would you want to?

3. Kylie Jenner Lip Kits $29USD

Kylie Jenner Lip Kits

WHAT: Anything that has the name Kardashian/Jenner in the title might as well be laced with gold because what they’ve got on their hair, face, body and booty SELLS. And this Kylie Jenner Lip Kit is no exception. You might have been around for the #KylieJennerLipChallenge which had girls trying to replicate Ky’s plumped pout by sucking on a shot glass…. She’s now come out and admitted to those fillers we all already knew about, but it didn’t stop her from still wanting to help girls achieve her perfect lips WITHOUT the surgery. And to that all we can say is thank-you Lord Jenner.

WORTH IT? So the lip kits come with lip liner AND lipstick for only $29 USD which is fine I guess. Take into account the AVERAGE AF Aussie dollar at the moment though and you’re looking at $60AUD with shipping. If you’re still keen, and let’s be honest we are, you might want to trawl through the interweb and view the hundreds of complaints from those who missed out, never received order confirmation or have not received their lip kits weeks after the fact. Hmmm suddenly staying up until 4am with beads of sweat dripping down your face while you feverishly enter your credit card digits doesn’t seem so fun after all. But no-one said Keeping up with the Kardashians would be easy.

4. Contour Kits $99

WHAT: More Kardashian/ Jenner induced nonsense. Don’t tell me you don’t live for it. Apparently now your cheek bones have to be chiseled, your forehead and chin have to be shaded and your nose sculpted or you just look like a giant potato. These handy contour kits usually come with a few different bronzing shades (matte only please) to suit a variety of skin tones and a few highlight shades that do likewise which is perfect for travel as you don’t need to take 43 different products with you wherever you go.

WORTH IT? I didn’t realise up until 2014 I was looking like a giant potato but I’m glad someone finally mentioned it. I now can not live without my Contour Kit from Anastasia Beverly Hills – who was previously known as Kween of brow,  but can now be crowned the Kween of contour, highlight, eyeshadow and the world. If the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit is a little too pricey for your liking, check out this list of more affordable options.

5. Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks $29

WHAT: When you were like 12 you might remember being on MySpace and there was that one gender-bending star you used to see on every page with make-up done better than you can manage after three and a half hours, dancing around to weird remixes of Boom Boom Pow. That was, and is Jeffree Star who rose through the ranks to become Social Media Famous before that was even a thing. Now he’s brought out this line of liquid matte lipsticks that are totally on point and come in crazy colours that everyone needs to have.

WORTH IT? If you’ve never felt the need to paint green, black, white, or purple on your lips you might just be persuaded by these little gems. Easy to use, one swipe provides the perfect amount of colour and the perfect mix of matte/velour finish that stays all day without drying out your lips. Total winner for me.

6. Christian Louboutin Lipsticks $90USD

christianlouboutin-rougelouboutin-8052001_X001_1_1200x1200_1438602535

WHAT: Renowned for THOSE shoes with the red backs that will cost you a whole pay check, it was only fitting that Louboutin would release their own lipstick range. Rouge Louboutin Velvet Matte claim to provide an opulent colour and soft touch feel, with non-drying comfort. Apparently Christian Louboutin wanted to make lipstick somewhat of a treasure, not something to be tucked in away in ones bag. Which MIGHT explain the over the top design.

WORTH IT? If you didn’t work it out, I have for you and that’s over $125AUD for one little lipstick. PLUS whatever you’d need to pay to get it here which is probably a lot since I presume it’s coming via gold carrier pigeon. Is it just me or is that packaging a little gaudy too. Pass on this one.

7. Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette $25.95

maybelline_the_nudes_palette_eye_shadow_9.6g_1_1

WHAT: 12 neutral, bronze and copper shades that are the perfect combo of buttery and pigmented for easy application. The amount of looks you can create with palette is numerous. The bronze shades are perfect to complement any eye colour and skin tone.

WORTH IT? This product has been one of the most sort after since it landed and I’d say it probably comes down to that price tag. Maybelline again proves that it’s a brand you can’t go past for affordable, quality cosmetics.

Which of these badboys fell into your cart in 2015 (I know at least ONE of them did)
