Olaplex made those of us prone to colouring our hair sit up and take notice when Kimmy K managed to get her hair from dark brunette to stunning platinum blonde seemingly overnight (or, you know, over four days while she hid and had her assistants run out and do her errands).
Which Kimmy is better?
This of course inspired the rest of the mere mortals to rush to their nearest hair salon and demand the same results – which was every hair dressers worst nightmare. Until we found out the little miracle bottle that had helped Kim achiever her look – Olaplex.
What is Olaplex?
You can think of Olaplex as your hair follicle rebuilder. If you can imagine your hair follicle as a thin vine, blowing in the wind – external elements such as heat, colour (dye/bleach) and rough combing can cause the vine to split, and break down. Olaplex applied before, during and after colour treatments can help to restrengthen the vine and rebuild it from the outside in. The good news is Olaplex can be applied to all hair types including virgin, coloured, textured, or highly compromised.
What is the Difference between Olaplex No.1, No.2 & No.3?
All treatments contain the same key ingredient just in different dosages for their own distinct purpose.
Olaplex No.1 & No.2 are available for professionals only. No.1 gets added directly into the hair colour or lightener to protect and repair hair while it is being coloured. You can use Olaplex No.1 as a stand alone treatment on particularly damaged hair for a total rebuild.
Olaplex No. 2 is a cream formula so it can easily be applied after a colour service to restore the strength, structure and integrity hair.
Olaplex No. 3 is a take home treatment that can be used to keep hair strong and healthy between colour treatments. Olaplex No. 3 that is easily accessible by consumers and you do NOT need to have had Olaplex No.1 or No. 2 treatments to use it. Olaplex No. 3 is the most powerful at home hair rebuilding agent available.
How to Use Olaplex No. 3
1. You can either start by washing your hair lightly with your favourite shampoo to rid your hair of oil/ product build up or if you feel your hair is already clean enough you can apply Olaplex to dry hair (you will need to use more product to thoroughly saturate dry hair).
2. Apply a good amount to towel dried (or dry as mentioned above) hair and comb through
3. Leave on for at least 10 minutes but if your hair is extremely damaged you can leave on for up to 90 minutes
4. Rinse out, follow up with shampoo and conditioner. Olaplex is NOT a leave in treatment or conditioner and is meant to be followed up by a normal haircare routine
5. Style hair as usual
Your hair should feel soft but as it not a hair mask or deep conditioner as such it might not feel AS soft as you expect. Remember, Olaplex works from the inside out repairing broken hair bonds.
Can I use Olaplex No. 3 once only?
The results experienced from Olaplex are permanent – so the reconnected hair bonds will not break on their own. However, if you continue to damage your hair with thermal, chemical or mechanical processes you will need to continue your Olaplex No. 3 treatment at home.
