The Ordinary skincare routine

The Ordinary are creators of highly effective, stripped-down skincare products which do just what they say on the tin. Each item in The Ordinary’s skincare range is clearly labelled with its active ingredients, which makes building a simple skincare routine around The Ordinary products easy, especially for beginners.

How to build your skincare routine

When designing a skincare routine, the first considerations you should always make are: what are your skincare goals? What issues is your skin most vulnerable to? We all have different types of skin, and your skincare routine should be built around your own skin and what it needs; if you suffer from dry skin, you’ll want to make sure you use lots of products that hydrate and moisturise, or if you suffer from acne, blemish-busting treatments should feature in your routine.

What to include in your The Ordinary skincare routine

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Hydration Support Formula 30ml
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG 30ml
The Ordinary 10% Argireline Solution 30ml
The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors + HA 30ml

Here are some of RY’s favourite products by The Ordinary, as well as our suggestions of how you can include them in your daily skincare regime. Every skincare routine should start in the same way: with a cleanser.

1. Wash your face using mild soap or a simple facial cleanser and warm water.

2. Hydrate

This offers a great base layer that helps to hydrate the skin. Hyaluronic acid attracts up to 1,000x its weight in water, while vitamin B5 also improves surface hydration on the skin. Even if you don’t suffer from dry skin, good hydration is a vital part of keeping your skin supple and smooth.

3. Focus on your eyes.

This can help to reduce puffiness and dark circles around the eyes. If your eyes look great as they are, you can skip this step, but for many of us, it’s a necessity.

4. Think ahead.

Skincare isn’t just about looking good today; it’s also about looking good tomorrow. The Ordinary 10% Argireline Solution 30ml packs in a solution of Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, which has been shown in studies to improve the appearance of folds in facial areas such as the forehead and eyes, keeping your skin smooth and soft for longer.

5. Moisturise.

All good skincare routines finish on a moisturiser (or an SPF cream, depending on whether your moisturiser packs in SPF protection too). The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors + HA 30ml can keep your skin strong and supple, as well as acting as a natural barrier to germs and dirt. This product offers non-greasy hydration and can be used by people with both dry and oily skin.

6. If your moisturiser doesn’t include SPF protection, finish with an SPF product for sun protection. Depending on your complexion, you should choose sun protection of a sufficient SPF to keep you safe for the current time of year, with people of fairer complexions choosing an SPF of 50+.

Improvise and adapt

The best thing about a strong skincare routine is: it’s not set in stone. Play with your skincare routine, and experiment to find the products that work best for you. The Ordinary offers a huge range of products, each designed to target particular skin issues, from blemishes to fine lines and dry patches; experiment with both your morning and night skincare regimen, and just remember: more isn’t always better.
