Who better than to keep up with the hottest beauty trends then the lovely team here at Ry? With the hottest products at our fingertips, it can be tempting to try them all! Here are our staff picks for the month of July!
Throughout the month of July you both want to and, more importantly, need to do something about dry winter hair and lips. After eyeing off a few newbies, it was decided: The Bite Beauty 5 Night Lip Fix, the Redken Frizz Dismiss shampoo and serum as well as the Wella Luxe Oil. Thoughts on each of the products are as follows:
Staff Pick #1 -
Bite Beauty 5 Night Lip Fix rrp $19.95
Bite Beauty has a great range of the most on trend lippy colours in both matte and gloss. Instead of going for a colour, I went for the Lip Rejuvenating Duo as my poor lips have taken a beating the past few months throughout the winter – leaving them dry and flaky.
I am super picky when it comes to applying certain lip products as there are so many out on the market that actually do more damage than good. Basically anything containing petroleum will dry out your lips, and will become dependant on using the product – a bit like drinking Coke to quench your thirst… it will make you thirstier!
The Bite Beauty lip duo contains the Whipped Cherry Fruit Scrub & the Agave Lip Mask. I have never come across such a duo that promises total lip rejuvenation in just 5 days. When I opened the lip scrub, I wasn’t quite sure how to go about using it. But after a bit of a Google search I found the best application method was to:
- Apply the scrub stick as you would a lip balm. The lip balm like texture contains tiny exfoliating beads. The exfoliating beads are imperative to scrub your lips free of any dead or dry skin.
- Gently use your finger to massage the beads on your lips for about 30 seconds.
- Completely wipe of using a tissue.
- Apply a very small amount of the Agave Lip Mask to your freshly exfoliated lips to lock in the moisture.
I recommend doing this right before bed so that the Lip Mask can absorb into your lips overnight. My results were very positive with the little gem, especially loving the agave lip mask. I do however think that the scrub should be slightly grittier to get those stubborn areas.

Redken Frizz Dismiss Shampoo $21.21
Instant Deflate Leave-In Smoothing Oil Serum $25.46
I was slightly dubious when it came to products that claim smoother and more manageable hair as I have been left scorned previously when it comes to ‘frizz control products’. I find that they either leave my hair oily, or they simply don’t do as they promise.
We all know how to shampoo so I’m not going to go through each step (lather, rinse, repeat*), rather I will talk about the results.
Firstly it was a big deal for me to switch from my beloved Pureology Hydrate to another brand. The Frizz Dismiss conditioner had not arrived into HQ so I decided to try the leave-in serum, which also acts to protect hair from heat styling. The Friss Dismiss range has replaced the ever popular Smooth Lock range from Redken.
Surprisingly each product in the Frizz Dismiss range has its own ‘Frizz Protection Factor’ or ‘FPF’ which ranges from 10-40. The lower FPF is recommended for fine hair or low humidity climates and ranges up to 40 FPF, which is ideal for coarse hair or extreme humidity.
After washing my hair with the shampoo and my current conditioner, I towel dried my hair and applied the Instant Deflate Oil Serum FPF30. The below ‘before’ image is the closest representation of my hair after I blow dry with the serum in.
Results: My hair did not end up looking at all like the ‘after’ image here (perhaps if it was professionally blow-dried and under extreme lighting then maybe). I did notice a small difference in fly-away reduction but I think in combination with the conditioner during summer the combo could be a winner.

Wella Luxe Oil Reconstructive Elixr
rrp $46, RY.com.au $36.34
To be honest I have no idea why its taken me so long to try this “game changer” – it might have something to do with the huge influx of competing hair care products on the market today? Either way my current hair care routine was simply not cutting it and this is when the Wella Professional Luxe Oil stepped in to save the day.
Four words to describe my hair: long, fine, wavy, and unruly. Being so long the ends often get really dry and my roots get a little oily. This oil has really worked wonders on the lengths of my hair since I started using it last month. The reconstructive elixir claims to protect keratin and smooth out the hairs cuticle, which over time start to split if they aren’t being taken care of.
The scent… omg the scent! This glorious, beautifully packaged glass bottle of oil will leave your trestles smelling divine. It honestly has to be my favourite product for hair.
How to use: Apply 1-2 pumps of the Luxe Oil to the lengths of either damp or dry hair (even in dry hair it wont leave your hair feeling weighed down). No need to rinse this product out, just leave it in and apply as needed every second day or so, depending on how dry and long your hair is.
For any of you wanting to grow a healthy long head of hair – defiantly give this product a go to ensure the lengths of your hair stay as healthy as possible. I can honestly say this is now my favourite hair care product – game changer indeed!
