We’re constantly on the look out for the next big thing that will make our skin look tighter, firmer and more youthful. As we age our collagen levels decrease, leading to fine lines, wrinkles and skin sagging. It’s hard to avoid this even with a thorough skincare regime. Which is where plastic surgery and botox come in, but there are some downsides to that as well. For starters the price, and um, ouch?
Skin Needling is a new trend that’s taking over the beauty industry, but it’s another one that makes us question:
Is it worth it?
What is Skin Needling?
Skin needling is the manual application of 200 tiny surgical steel needles rolled over the skin. How fun does that sound?
What does Skin Needling Do?
The aim of skin needling is to penetrate and stimulate the skin’s barrier to increase collagen and elastin production, smooths skin and can also heal acne scarring or dark spots. Well now it’s starting to sound more appealing…
How much does Skin Needling hurt?
If you’re getting your skin needled professional they will apply a topical anaesthetic cream to the area which will minimise discomfort so you will only feel a bit of pressure and a mild tingling sensation. If you’re doing it at home, it might be best to also get an anaesthetic cream from your local pharmacy.
Wait for it though – side effects include moderate redness, swelling, flaking, grazing and bruising. Eeep. These side effects will only last up to 7 days at the most.
Where should I use it?
Most people concentrate their skin needling just on the face, but you can also use it on your body for stretch marks and other scarring. And even more than that, skin needling is also being used currently as a lip enhancement!
